“Forever Loved, Never Forgotten”
The Navy Gold Star Program is eternally grateful for the sacrifice of those Service Members who have died in service to our country. To help us to never forget, we have set up this tribute page to honor and remember the memory of those lives. If you would like to honor the memory of your Sailor, Soldier, Marine, Airman or Coast Guardsman through the Navy Gold Star website please submit your thoughts and a photo.
Gary Leo Rehm, Jr. was born in Elyria, OH, and graduated from Oberlin High School. While in high school, Gary obtained his HVAC certification. He was a hard worker and began working at a very young age, said his mother. He was a Boy Scout and was very close to making Eagle Scout before his troop disbanded and he was unable to fulfill requirements. He joined the Navy in July 1998 and was stationed at various locations along the East Coast before his final assignment aboard the USS Fitzgerald. He was a Fireman Controlman and was loved and respected by his peers and his leaders. He was physically active and was considered the life of any party. “He was a wonderful son and we miss him so very much,” said his mother. Gary was posthumously promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and he is remembered by his wife Erin, his mother and father, Anita and Gary, and his sister Jessica.
