“Forever Loved, Never Forgotten”

The Navy Gold Star Program is eternally grateful for the sacrifice of those Service Members who have died in service to our country. To help us to never forget, we have set up this tribute page to honor and remember the memory of those lives. AOAN David “Wayne” Cornell (Wayne as he was known) was an aviation ordnance man airman on the USS Coral Sea. He was killed onboard during a severe storm while securing a piece of equipment on the sponson.  DOD 1/31/88 -on his sister’s birthday. He would have wanted us to know that no matter how tough life is, you can always find joy in it and to love life to the fullest no matter what.
